Danielle Scutt is creating a capsule collection for TopShop in the UK. That in and of itself is astounding news. The really wonderful news is how beautiful the collection looks. There’s always this (sometimes justified) fear that designers who create high end collections will scrimp on the details when it comes to something slightly downmarket. From the photos it’s obvious that Scutt scrimped on nothing and created a collection in the same family as her autumn/winter 08 runway collection. The other concern is, if she has this capsule collection for TopShop, does it detract from her vaunted Autumn/Winter 08 collection.
The thinking is, why get something that costs more when you can get it’s cousin that costs less. The news for Scutt is good here as well. Although the collections are vaguely similar they are not the same. Time will tell how successful the TopShop collection really is, but most will be happy to have anything from Scutt.
