Alex Perry at Rosemount Fashion Festival

August 19, 2008

Alex Perry Bridal

I blogged about the Rosemount Fashion festival last week and have to tell you that Alex Perry’s designs at least in pictures look amazing. It’s as if the designer thought of every possible dress I would want to wear on my wedding day and put it on display in the form of a fashion show. The Rosemount Fashion Festival as mentioned last week was put on to give a boost to Syndey’s flagging retail fashion industry. If Alex Perry’s creations are any indication, Sydney’s fashion industry will rebound quickly. Take a look at all of the photos from the show via Australia’s Daily Telegraph

Sydney Fashion Festival to Spruce up Australia

August 12, 2008

Sydney Fashion

It’s never a good thing when you hear that the retail fashion industry is suffering anywhere in the world. It affects so many different cogs in the business wheel of fashion. This exact dilema is affecting the retail fashion industry in Sydney Australia. Instead of sitting on their rear ends and not doing anything about it though, the industry in that city is doing something about it. Currently they are holding an event to bring the fashions seen during Sydney Fashion week directly to the people.

Sydney Fashion Festival started today and it open to anyone who wants to see upcoming designs from their favorite fashion designers and several unknowns who may end up becoming someone’s favorite. The Sydney Fashion Festival starts today.

Australia Fashion Week via Hint

May 5, 2008

Australia Fashion Week

Australia Fashion Week must have hit the big time as backstage photos were published on Hintmag.com late last week. The veteran fashion site just their usual awesome backstage shots from designers Akira, Antipodium, Kirrily Johnson, Romance was Born and Wayne Cooper. If there’s one thing that can be gleaned from the Australia fashion week event is that Simon Lock may be on to something when he stated that Sydney is becoming the fifth fashion capital of the world.

Whether that distinction is worth a mention is arguable, but discussions aside, the want, need, have crowd have added Sydney designers to their shortlist. See the back stage photos here.

Kate Sylvester Offends Almost Everyone at Australia Fashion Week

April 30, 2008

Kate Sylvester

Kate Sylvester favorite within the hallowed halls of Papierdoll ended up apologizing after her show during Australia Fashion Week. The New Zealand designer apologized to returning servicemen after adorning her models with fake medals during her fashion show. An Australian military official said that the use of the medals was “appalling and sickening”. Possibly the most egregious use of a medal was the New Zealand Operational Service medal given to veterans who served in extreme and/or hazardous conditions. Read the rest of this entry »

Kirrily Johnston

til the break of dawn. I am loving the coverage of Australian fashion week and to be perfectly honest, although there’s been this sort of lull because we’ve suffered from fashion week exhaustion, this one comes at the right time. We’re in the midst of recharging and, BLAM.. new collections from Kirrily Johnston, Josh Goot and many others. Keep an eye on this space for more photos later this week.

This photo is from the Kirrilu Johnston show that happened this past weekend.

Look out for…Obus

July 30, 2007

It’s no secret that I have a love for Australian fashion labels and designers.

Asphalt Dreaming. This is the name of the Autumn/Winter 2007 womenswear collection from the Australian fashion label, Obus. Melbourne based, Obus, first collection was showcased Winter 2000. Kylie Zerbst is the creative director and designer for Obus, and her philosophy is simple — she creates intelligent, tailored clothing for the modern thinking woman.

The Asphalt Dreaming collection (as seen in the images) is a combination of sharp tailoring, muted tones, and luxurious knits, along with the Obus signature style of layering.

Denim’s new wunderkind: Maise

July 16, 2007

No one can never say that Australians don’t have a hold on the denim market. Why? Because it seems lately that the Australians are just getting it right with regards to the denim department, i.e. Sass & Bide, 18th Amendment, Ksubi (formerly known as Tsubi), and now Maise.

Maise denim label is the new jean on the block coming into the fashion scene. Maise is a predominately womenswear denim label created by Sydney and former Topshop designer, Claire Greaves. The 2007 Winter Collection is vintage-inspired with high waists and wide legs in a range of blues from indigo to bleached out grayish blues.
