You know the story of Russian spy Anna Chapman correct? She was living in the New York area in the United States essentially spying on the US. The American government stated that nothing of value was lost. In the case of Anna Chapman, American men may have felt different about the value thing. In any case, Chapman was celebrated on her return to Russia with parades, news stories and now a spread in Maxim magazine. The question is… what is she wearing? It looks like the set is some sort of Agent Provocateur piece. Further investigations may be necessary, but the whole edgy spy thing might ring true for Agent Provocateur if a spy is indeed wearing it.

You will have a wonderful fall wearing his Eden high heel red patent pump shoe. You will be especially warm wearing his Williamsburgh boot. Oh some may pass it off as a fad, but I know you will be ever so happy wearing these shoes with pride knowing that you paid a whole lot less than what we might end up paying here in Hong Kong for the real thing, or those in the states pay for overpriced shoes. Ever heard of Ritu Beri? No? Well now you have. According to President Sarkozy of France and a bunch of other French diplomats Ritu Beri is entirely worthy of winning the Chevalier Des Arts et Des Lettres. She was the first Asian to head the French design house Scherer, made beautiful wedding dresses and designed for the likes of Bill Clinton, Prince Charles, Moulin Rouge, Nicole Kidman. Beri has shown during Paris fashion week and is also an accomplished author. (ed note: Is there anything she hasn’t done?) Beri is scheduled to receive the French award on October 21st from the French Ambassador to India.

Hedi Slimane is in love with American youth. In some places loving American youth may get you arrested and a favorite of inmates at Sing-sing. Slimane’s love though is purely art-form, and culture. His recent manifestation of this love is in a short film aptly titled “I Love USA”. In it we’re greeted with a cello playing man in a wolf-chimera mask who is accompanied by a young cheerleader swaying to the pom pomming away to the beat of the cellist. (I can’t believe I just typed that) Slimane, who spends a majority of his time in Los Angeles is touting this new video on TheCorner.com and his namesake website hedislimane.com

If anyone doubted John Paul Gaultier’s dedication to creating beautiful pieces for all women, Beth Ditto’s appearance should assuage those doubts. Gaultier created a couple of pieces for the size 28 woman in us all and Ditto proudly wore it. Ditto of rock group, The Gossip, fame made her appearance during Gaultier’s Paris show in textured pink floral corset, fishnet stockings and black mary janes. Although many appreciated Gaultier’s show and homage to plus sized models some wanted more shows dedicated to the everyday woman (particularly the size 10s as opposed to the 0s).

“Instead of a fuss being made about a few cause célèbre exceptions on the catwalk, what I’d really like instead is for most models to be a [UK] size 10 rather than a size 8,” British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman, told The Guardian.

Pierre Cardin dished a mouthful to WWD stating among other things that his licensees are producing also-ran designs and his mens collection leaves much to be desired. We’re paraphrasing here, but the legendary designer talked shop on a variety of things including Lady Gaga, his approach to design in the 60s, the state of his licensees and a smattering of other topics. The designer also let slip that he would be holding a show in New York to reintroduce his name to younger generations. The 88 year old Cardin was a major force in the 60s and 70s with his futuristic collection and sharp lines. He’s also known as a licensing genius placing his Pierre Cardin name on everything from suits, ties to Pierre Cardin sardines. With over 800 Pierre Cardin licenses around the globe, his name is synonymous with all things high end fashion.

Before excess, pomp, circumstance et al hit Paris for the grandaddy of all fashion weeks something different took place yesterday. The ethical fashion world went on display with the largest assortment of eco-designers and sustainable fashion under one roof. This smattering of top fashion designers with Mother Earth in mind hit with organic cotton and silk fabrics under the Docks en Seine roof at the French fashion institute. Some of the designers on display at this event include La Queue de Chat, Diffus (from Denmark), and Terra Plana (England) that had on display recycled leather shoes.

Paris Hilton was refused entry to Japan yesterday. The hotel heiress was due to enter Japan to promote her namesake fashion line when she was told in no uncertain terms she wasn’t allowed to visit the country. Questioned for over 6 hours over a span of two days at Narita airport, Hilton was unceremoniously booted as a result of her drug charges. Paris Hilton’s row with Japanese authorities stemmed from recent legal entanglements having to do with drug possession. Japan prohibits anyone convicted of drug charges to enter into the country. Paris Hilton was set to promote her fashion and perfume line launched several years ago that’s seen a modicum of success in the American markets.

Paris Hilton’s publicist states that she’s going to reschedule the visit to Japan, but Japanese authorities made no mention of whether she would be welcomed into the country. Hilton tweeted the news to her fans, “Going home now,” she tweeted. “So disappointed to miss my fans in Asia. I promise to come back soon. I love you all! Love Paris xoxo.”

Well everyone saw this coming. Everyone except perhaps Lady Gaga and Vogue Japan. The cover that’s sizzling up the intertubes has gone beyond viral and into the hands of PETA protesters. The Vogue cover shows Lady Gaga entirely nude covered with ground chuck (or Kobe Beef?). The spread includes Gaga in all manner of cow meat. Vogue Japan has yet to respond but if PETA’s wrath is anything to fear, Lady Gaga may not want to wear fur in the public.
