Luxurious fabrics, dramatic colours of red and black, architectural tailoring and geometric shape, and an impeccable attention to detail. All these attributes are evident throughout the recent collection of Ana Sekularac. Sekularac’s recent collection is very reminiscent of what Marlene Dietrich and Joan Crawford would have light up the silver screen with back in the 1930s.
British born, but of Serbian origin, Ana Sekularac has worked in practically ever facet of the fashion industry from modeling for Gianfranco Ferrer and Miu Miu, to assisting the editor of Cosmopolitan Magazine, to designing her own collection. All of Ms. Sekularac’s designs embodies the craftsmanship of a couture designer, creating in her own atelier. Each piece is finished by hand and she gives particular attention to each unique detail. Ana’s Autumn/Winter ’07 collection, a gift to the strong and intelligent woman’s wardrobe, naturally exudes power and femininity.

I see a pattern here…
Topshop just won’t learn. First, they are butting heads with Chloe regarding a ‘copycat’ yellow jumper, and now accusations of slave labor. Phillip Green may soon have to start a dream team of solicitors (UK name for attorneys) if surprises like this keep unfolding. Check out the full story here.

Q. What do you wish people would take notice more of (whether in your collection or fashion in general)?
A. My use of materials. Making a material that would not be considered precious into something precious.Q. What does your collection feature?
A. A collection of origami jewelry inspired by Japanese culture.Q. What is your weakness.. what are you bad at?
A. The one weakness of my pieces is that they have a limited life span. But I like this feature in my work, as the jewelry has to be appreciated from the time it exists.Q. Where can your collection (or pieces from it) be purchased?
A. Directly from me & hopefully from my website and hidden art website soon.Q. When it’s all said and done, what influence will you want to have on the fashion industry?
A. I want to change the perception of what people perceive to be precious and make a material like paper to have a perceived higher value.

Kids Fashion Week?
Could you imagine a world full of super child-models? I mean yes, Marc Jacobs does have Dakota Fanning (and we looooove her) and yes many models start out at pre-pubescent ages, but what if children were the next big thing? Well it seems that way as fashion’s youth obsession has taken it a step further as Dubai’s Kids Fashion Week hits the industry’s weak spot. The goal of the event is to showcase trends in the children’s wear industry and create buzz for designers using some of the most popular child models. Brands such as Marks & Spencer, Okaidi, Pumpkin Patch and United Colors of Benetton are just a small portion of the participating brands. And it seems that the event (which is in it’s fifth run) is finally hitting it’s stride. It’s no Paris fashion week, but it is a nice prelude before the fashion week seasons begins. Although there are a variety of tradeshows and other types of events situated to showcase children’s wear, this is the first to feature it on such a grand scale and as a 7 day event. The event is happening now and will continue until August 16th.

Lagerfeld Confidentiel

The silver-haired sartorialist, Karl Lagerfeld, is debuting a film this autumn titled Lagerfeld Confidentiel. The film offers an introspective view into the life and times of the icon. With over 150 hours of footage, the film is more than a vessel for entertainment, it is an intimate portrait. Lagerfeld is by todays tabloid-addicted celebri-whore standards, a fashion phenomena. Why? Because this man has achieved iconic status (while still living) and is remains to have an obscure past that was only recently uncovered in last years A Beautiful Fall by Alicia Drake (great read by the way). Though, expect no less than any other “fashion life” documentary. It’s replete with glamour, narcissistic neurosis and sky-high luxury. We’d have it no other way.
Lagerfeld Confidentiel debuts in the UK in October.
Update: Virtual Fashionalities
It seems that virtual fashion is indeed the “next best thing”. Shortly after our Monday posting titled “Virtual Fashionalities”, Giorgio Armani announced that he will be opening a store in the virtual reality playground: Second Life. The store will allow consumers to purchase the brand’s top 10 items via “The Linden Dollar” (the Second Life currency) or in real life. Hmmm…we wonder who’s next in line for virtual store debuts? Surely it can’t stop here.
