L’Oreal Fashion Week Who’s Who
L’Oreal fashion week is going on right now and the pictures are few and far between. That may be because photos are slow to come out of Toronto or that the internet out of the whole damned country is slow, who knows?

Jennifer Toole at Martiniboys has a shortlist of designers worth seeing during the fashion week in Toronto. Seeing as how we’re not very familiar with a good chunk of the designers it’s nice to sort of make an introduction. I’ve been googling them for the past 4 hours trying to get a read on who my favorite are and whether I am going to be buying from their fall collections. In all honesty, there’s something to be said about wearing designers of which the public at large is not familiar. So I’ve decided to parse Jennifer’s list down even more into the designers showing: Evan & Dean, Gsus, J. Lindeberg, Pink Cobra in particular we are really loving Rudsak.
L’Oreal Fashion Week in Toronto
So Toronto Fashion Week starts with Project Runway Canada winner Evan Biddell. While we’re definitely excited to see what comes from this event, fashion week is getting a little long in the tooth. We’ll take the big four, but we hear even New Zealand has a fashion week…or not. So we’ll be bringing photos from L’Oreal’s fashion week. It’s going to be hard to top Montreal though.
More from Japan: Raphus cucu

Designer Eriko Isoya got fall right in so many different ways it’s hard not to be thoroughly impressed. It’s also hard not to want to get on a plane and fly as fast as possible to Tokyo. The Autumn/Winter 08 collection was simply one of the top collections so far at Japan Fashion Week. What’s really striking in addition to the sleek look of the line and the stockings with sandals trend (that’s filtering into the fall), is the beehive hairdos taken to another level. I’m thinking that this was Amy Winehouse inspired similar to Lagerfeld’s muse comment not so long ago, but this spread out beehive set the whole collection off. More photos from the collection.

Mikio Sakabe at Japan Fashion Week

Let’s face it, outside of Tokyo, getting these Japanese designs are pretty hard. Sometimes even when you’re in Tokyo, you’ll be hard pressed to get anything being shown during Japan Fashion Week. New York designers, Milan, and Paris are not that difficult with the exception of the smaller more obscure designers. For the most part though, you’ll have to really look hard online to find the designer of your liking based out of Japan. So it really hurts the heart somewhat when you find a designer like Mikio Sakabe and her big knit scarves that are so appealing for the fall and you can do little to have it. I’m hoping that Sakabe crosses the vast shores and starts selling her wares here in Hong Kong, and even for US readers (though you guys already have plenty). Here are some photos from her Japan Fashion Week show:

Denim Kimonos - Tokyo Fashion Week

The death of the geisha culture may be greatly exaggerated. Take for example, Jotaro Saito at Tokyo Fashion Week. The designer is bringing back the age of the geisha with a mix of modern times. His take on kimonos:
My message would be — you can wear kimono to a party, a birthday party, you can even put the denim kimonos in the laundry
It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that denim kimonos, or kimonos in general could become the new chic uniform of fashion outside of Japan. We’ll have more stuff from Tokyo Fashion Week later this week.
The Pied Piper of Chanel
One can’t help but love Karl Lagerfeld. He will hold the most extravagant show and everyone will talk about it for as long as possible. I call him the pied piper of Chanel and was happy to grab this photo from Hint during Paris fashion week, to illustrate exactly what I am saying. Lagerfeld in front, models walking behind and the crowd staring in profound rapture as if not to miss a thing. No one does it this way.

Lanvin Takes Paris Fashion Week…in Total

Alber Elbaz decided that he was not going to let fashion week in Paris end without stealing the whole thing. His collection for Lanvin demonstrated a mastery all his own once again. Melding a good heaping of the major themes seen throughout Paris fashion week Elbaz went a step further and made Lanvin the collection of fashion week. Laura Gilbert of Elle Uk put it this way:
Elbaz sent a masterclass in wearable and versatile yet incredibly beautiful cocktail dresses, chic suiting and striking embellished evening wear down the catwalk. Think Alexis Colby in Dynasty meets Robert Palmer’s backing singers in the 1986 video for ‘Addicted to Love’.
We’ll be bringing more thoughts from Paris Fashion Week later this week, especially why we don’t think the 80s are back (contrary to what some Paris designers thought).
Miu Miu according to Kirsten Dunst

Kirsten Dunst has always been the cute girl who always stays natural. While Hollywood implores that she gets work done to make her perfectly flawless like every other actress, she’s content to keep things as they are and I don’t blame her. Screw Hollywood is what I say, unless they’re giving me a million dollar acting contract. I’m still taking calls and I don’t have an agent here in Hong Kong. What truly impressed the sox off of me is Miu Miu’s campaign featuring the Dunst. Simply breathtakingly fun is what I say. So how does she pull off the fun? Take a look at photos from the ads:
